There was pomp and colour yesterday, the 4th of October, at the residence of the British High Commissioner Nic Hailey, as young women showcased their talent and style during the #RefuSHE gala, 2018.
The ten-year anniversary event saw models who happen to be refugees and survivors, put their best foot forward in an incredible fashion show graced by the Commissioner and Education CS Amina Mohammed.
Set on the backdrop of Muthaiga’s pristine grounds, the event was alive as the contestants took to the glass runway to the delight of the crowd. Probably a testament to the #RefuSHE’s calling to equip and empower women
Speaking after the event, Nic Hailey said, “RefuSHE is doing amazing work supporting these young women and girls; and I was pleased to be able to host this evening’s celebration of their efforts over the past decade. The UK is committed to leaving no girl behind, and supporting the most vulnerable to realise their potential, fulfil their dreams and contribute to the future of this country”.
On her part Miss Kenya 2018 Finali Galaiya said that she was proud to see the transformation and pleased at how the organization was changing lives.
“I am happy to be here it’s such an honour, events such as this are a nice platform for these women to realize their full potential,” said Finali. She was accompanied by Mr Kenya, Robert Budi, and Terry Mungai – founder and director of Ashleys Kenya.
One model narrated her journey from Congo, appreciating the role and impact the organization had played in her life.
“I am grateful, I loved the catwalk and I am grateful for the opportunity it has given me including the gift of education, I came here over three years ago, I could not speak proper English but look at the doors it has opened for me,” she gushed.
