Kanye West isn't happy about his divorce from wife Kim Kardashian but "he knew it was coming", according to reporters.

Kim today filed for divorce from her rapper husband after almost seven years of marriage and months of rumors their relationship had broken down.

While Kanye has yet to publicly comment, a source close to him told People magazine he was "resigned to reality."

"He knew it was coming, but that doesn't make it any easier," the source reportedly said.

"This is a somber day for him."

The source claimed the pair's split is "as amicable as possible", but "amicable doesn't mean joyful or ideal", adding "It just means that they're being adults about the whole thing".

They went on to claim "Kanye is seeing counselors and advisors to help him through this spot".

The pair are coming to an agreement over custody of their kids North, seven, Saint, five, Chicago, three, and Psalm, one.

The terms of their separation have been laid out in documents filed by Kim's lawyer Laura Wasser.

TMZ reports that Kim is asking for joint legal custody and physical custody of the kids.

And sources say that Kanye is fine with the arrangement, and that both parties are committed to co-parenting together.

It's also said that the former couple have a pre-nuptial agreement and that neither of them are contesting it.

Sources say Kim and Kanye are already far along in reaching a property settlement together.

The court documents don't list a date of separation, but instead say it is yet to be determined, but of course reports have been swirling for a while now that they had split.

Things got rocky for Kim and Kanye in the last half of 2020, with him launching his failed Presidential bid, which saw him make a string of upsetting statements about Kim and her family.

Most notably, he told the world that they had considered aborting their daughter North and compared Kim's momager Kris Jenner to Kim Jong-un.

Kim stood by Kanye's side at the time, speaking out about his mental health battles and how people don't understand his bipolar diagnosis.

It is believed the couple had a prenuptial agreement and that discussions on a property settlement were well advanced.

The wedding was the first for West and the third for Kardashian after she had brief marriages with basketball player Kris Humphries and music producer Damon Thomas.

The divorce papers were filed a month before the March 18 premiere of the final season of "Keeping Up with the Kardashians," which is expected to chronicle the recent rift in the couple's relationship.
