Singer Bahati and Presidential aspirant Raila Odinga.

Musician Kevin Kioko, popularly known as Bahati, has accepted his new name, Mathew.

The name came about after Presidential aspirant Raila Odinga confused Bahati's name during a campaign rally at the Kamukunji grounds.

In a video doing rounds on social media, Bahati could be heard trying to whisper "Bahati, Mathare" to the Azimio la Umoja leader, who was introducing the parliamentary aspirants.

After several attempts, Raila seems to have heard Bahati wrong and called out the name "Mathew", before naming Jalang'o, Lang'ata parliamentary hopeful.

However, despite Raila's confusion, Bahati did not bother to correct the ODM party leader and simply raised both his hands in agreement.

“Mnasema Baba ameniongezea Jina tuuu Hivyo..... BAHATI KIOKO a.k.a MATHEW…Nimekubali," wrote Bahati on his Instagram handle.

Three weeks ago, Bahati hinted at foul play after being urged to drop his parliamentary bid in favour of an ODM aspirant days after receiving his nomination certificate to fly Jubilee's flag in the coming August General Elections.

Bahati, who has been vocal about his wishes to represent the people of Mathare, said he understands the plight of his people, having been born and raised in the area.

"Mathare is where I was born and raised, it is the place that made me who I am. We have been wanting and crying for change. If I can do something to better the lives of people in Mathare, why not go for it. Mathare people are going through the same problems I went through more than 20 years ago," said Bahati.
