Governor Samuel Tunai escaped death narrowly after a chopper he was in crash-landed shortly after take-off. The governor who was attending the burial of the father to County Finance CEC Julius Sasai at Melili was with three other people when the helicopter incident happened.

Tunai was with Narok East MP Lemanken Aramat. According to witnesses, the chopper produced a strange sound before it crash-landed a few metres after taking off. Shocked mourners rushed to rescue the occupants who were taken to Narok County Hospital. Details on the ownership of the chopper were still scanty. Contacted, Governor Tunai said he was fine and was already being driven to Nairobi. The cause of the crash is yet to be established.

Elsewhere… Son of hotelier dies in road accident

The family of hotelier and businessman Joseph Muya is mourning their son who died in a road accident at the weekend. According to a family member, Simon Muya was driving a tour van when he was involved in an accident at Kiundu area along the Nakuru-Nairobi Highway. Eyewitnesses say the van had run over a pedestrian, who also died on the spot. The driver lost control of the vehicle which then veered off the road.

“He rammed a stationary truck whose impact killed him on the spot,” said Charles Njoroge, a relative. A man who was in the van when the accident happened, was injured and taken to Nakuru Level Five Hospital. Nakuru East sub-county police boss Elena Kabukuru said the vehicle was towed to Central Police Station as investigations continue.
