Kenyans are in shock following news of the untimely death of Ruth Matete’s husband Pastor John Apewajoye, better known as Beloved John.

When news of his passing broke on Sunday, April 12, fans and a number of fellow celebrities took to social media to offer their condolences to Matete and her family.

On the forefront were the singer’s gospel music counterparts such as Evelyne Wanjiru and Kambua who extended their prayer for peace and comfort as she mourned the passing of her husband 

“Words fail me my sister #RuthMatete this is a tough one. My sincere heartfelt condolences for losing your husband #BelovedJohnApewajoye just a few months after your wedding. May God comfort and give you peace darling. Pole sana,” wrote Wanjiru.

“What do you say? No words are enough to comfort you @ruth_matete. May the God of all comfort, in His own infinite power carry you. May He catch and wipe your tears. May He lift your head and may your beloved Rest in eternal peace,” comforted Kambua.

Also in Matete’s corner was Marini Naturals CEO Michelle Ntalami who also stated that she was saddened by the news despite not knowing the couple personally.

“This is so heartbreaking. Heard about it I may not know you personally @ruth_matete but I feel deeply saddened. Sending you so much love and comfort, may God bring you to the light and heal your heart,” wrote Ntalami.

Chat Spot host Kush Tracey, on her part, reminded the gospel singer to trust God’s word during this difficult time.

“I don’t know you personally love @ruth_matete but may our good God give you strength and peace. My sincere condolences to you and your family. God is in control mami, trust His word.”

Joining the celebrities in condoling with the Tusker Project Fame (TPF) 5 winner were her fans: “May God comfort you, Ruth... This is so sad and hard to take in.. May he rest in peace,” wrote one user by the name @Savaisylvia

“Ruth only God can understand the pain you going through now, may he comfort you and hold your hand in this time of grief,” added another by the name @Memoypurity

@Andeyo_odongo wrote, “Ruth find the peace of God during this time it’s the only thing that will see you through it surpasses human understanding. May he rest in peace.”

Announcing the death of her husband, Beloved John, on Facebook, Ruth requested for prayers during the difficult moment.

“My husband Beloved John Apewajoye has gone to be with the lord… I humbly ask for your prayers during this difficult time,” read Matete’s post on Sunday, April 12.

Apewajoye, according to a source close to the family, died on Saturday night, six days after he was hospitalized with burns after a fire accident at their home on Monday, April 6.

At the time of his passing, Ruth and Beloved John had been married for five months.
