Controversial Mwingi Central MP Gideon Mulyungi has offered to pay his estranged wife, TV anchor Doreen Gatwiri Sh3 million to drop an assault case against him.
According to The Nairobian, the legislator opted for an out-of-court settlement by offering to pay his ex-wife the money.
Should the hearing against him proceed, Mulyungi risks vacating his parliamentary seat since if convicted, he could face a two-year jail term.

However, a divorce application by Gatwiri will proceed.

My life is in danger
On the night of 26 February 2018, Gatwiri expressed fear for her life after Mulyungi allegedly assaulted her at their Karen home, sustaining injuries on the head and back of the ear.
“Writing this with a lot of fear. My life is in danger. This evening at about 9.50pm my husband Mwingi Central Member Of Parliament Gideon Mulyungi assaulted me at our Karen Home and I sustained head injuries at the back of my ear resulting to my left ear going numb.

“I managed to report the matter at Hardy Police Station. I fear for my life because he always threatened me that I really don’t know who he is. This assault is not the first or second time. I did it to protect my home and his anger condition. Please help,” Gatwiri posted on social media.
MP assaults his father
The assault on Gatwiri is not the first instance the legislator, described as having an ‘ungovernable temper’ has been accused of physical violence.
Six months ago, the MP’s father Mulyungi Kithonga accused him of assault following a family dispute.

“I lost my front teeth when my son assaulted me in an argument. He rained kicks and blows on me until I fell to the ground in front of his mother and young siblings. One blow landed on my mouth.
"As a parent, I stripped naked to condemn him. I wanted to remind all my children that I am their father no matter their physical strength or wealth," he said, stating that the assault happened in 2004
"Since the assault, he has never bothered to apologise to me or to initiate any form of reconciliation with me. I have since forgiven him but that incident is fresh in my memory and I still keep my four knocked out teeth,” said the then 85-year-old.
Mulyungi dismissed the claims as propaganda.
