I belong to various social media platforms. In the last 2000 years, the best thing that could have happened to humanity, besides Jesus Christ, is technology. It is so powerful that it has disrupted almost everything under the sun.

In the past two weeks, I have been speaking about the greatest success common denominator, a timeless and indispensable character trait. By now, we all know that despite having skyrocket ambition, legendary talent and strong passion to succeed, a man will not amount to anything without self-discipline.

Winston Churchill, one of the greatest world leaders of the past century, once said,” Continuous effort, not strength or intelligence, is the key to unlocking our potential.” In line with this school of thought, I will say that self-discipline is superior to intelligence and ambition. Wake up every morning and face your world, face your fears and chase your dreams.

The only thing in 2016 that can stand between you and your goals is you. If you can handle yourself, there is nothing that you cannot handle.

In the words of Buddha, “It is better to conquer yourself than to win a thousand battles. Then the victory is yours. It cannot be taken from you. Not by angels or by demons, heaven or hell.”

I really like this quote, which says that, there is no hell, no demon, no heaven or angels that can stand in the way of a man who has mastered himself.

My challenge to you in 2016 is to focus on one thing. I urge you to forget your goals and fold your ambitions for a while and focus only on one thing first. That one thing is self-discipline.

Plato, the great philosopher once said, “For a man to conquer himself is the first and noblest of all victories. If I win over me, I can win over anything in this world.”

I recently read these wise words somewhere, “It is one of the strange ironies of this strange life that those who work the hardest, those who subject themselves to the strictest disciplines, those who give up certain pleasurable things in order to achieve a goal, are the happiest men.”
