The Twitter account of the Kenya defence forces has been infiltrated by hacking group anonymous. The hackers gained access to Kenya’s military account as well as that of KDF spokesperson Major Emmanuel Chirchir and used it to send abusive information that raised eyebrows on Sunday night and Monday morning.
The group also defaced the website of the National Environment Trust Fund. Chirchir says the military is doing all it can to regain control of the two accounts. Chirchir is urging the public to ignore any postings on the timelines of the two accounts as they are posted by imposters.
Anonymous is a loosely affiliated organization of unidentified, so-called hacktivists accused of either illegally shutting down or accessing numerous government websites around the world, as well as those of private companies.
They thrive on breaching federal agencies computer systems and the theft of thousands of people’s personal information.
