Lupita Nyongo’s 12 Years a Slave has grossed Sh3.1billion ($36.5 million). The movie by Steve McQueen’s will be re-released by Fox Searchlight in January 17, a day after the announcements of Oscar nominations.
The film is adapted from the true story of Solomon Northrup (Chiwetel Ejiofor), a free black man living in the North who loses his freedom when he is cajoled into being at the wrong place with the wrong people.
Meanwhile, Lupita underwent acupuncture and massage therapy after completing work on 12 Years A Slave to help her recover emotionally from the harrowing drama.
The star portrays a slave named Patsey, who is physically abused and repeatedly raped in the film, and she admits the brutal role was tough to let go after the movie finished.
