Evans Onyango

A 26-year-old electrician has found himself in trouble for tearing a Sh50 note in public.

Evans Onyango was further accused of damaging a pool table valued at Sh15,000. He allegedly committed the offence on March 25 in Starehe area. According to police, Geoffrey Owino whose property was destroyed, was supervising a pool game pitching the accused and other players on the said day. The prosecution said the accused was irritated after one of the players appeared to be winning the 8pm game.

He allegedly overturned the pool table before disappearing into the darkness.

Barely 10 minutes later, the accused reportedly returned to the venue and found the complainant closing for the day. It is then that he allegedly grabbed the Sh50 note from the complainant and tore it into two.

He was arrested by detectives from Muthaiga Police Station who also allegedly found him with four rolls of bhang valued at Sh40.

Onyango denied the charges and was released on a Sh30,000 bond.

His case will begin on July 3.
