Former Gem Member of Parliament Washington Jakoyo Midiwo on Wednesday asked President Uhuru Kenyatta to consult former President Mwai Kibaki on his Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) cargo directive.
Speaking during a TV interview, the former legislator said that the former President’s intelligence left Kenya at a good place economically and his knowledge would be useful to the current Head of State.
This came after the government issued a directive to cargo transporters to use the SGR to transport their cargo and abandon trucks which are cheaper.
Midiwo added that this move would kill businesses along the Mombasa-Nairobi route.

"Why can't they consult Mzee Kibaki and see how it is supposed to be done intelligently?" Midiwo asked referring to the SGR cargo directive “
"The second and third largest towns in Kenya are dead," he said. He further explained the effect SGR was having on small businesses in these major towns.
"The Port of Mombasa has been there since the railway...show me any Mijikenda who has been rich from jobs provided," Midiwo added.
Recently President Kenyatta was at the coast and had discussions with the local leaders on fears that the region’s economy was being affected by the SGR.
