Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino has strongly condemned the arrest of Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine saying it is an infringement on his rights.

Owino was speaking at Parliament Buildings on Wednesday where he was accompanied by Nyando MP Jared Okelo and nominated MP Gideon Keter who are also members of the Young Parliamentarians Association.

“I would like to condemn the unlawful arrest of Bobi Wine. The government of Uganda is infringing on the fundamental right and freedom of liberty and expression.

“Dictator Yoweri Kaguta Museveni should know an injury to one comrade is an injury to all.

“We, therefore, demand for the immediate release of Bobi Wine, failure to which, within a period of a week, we as young parliamentarians will lead a delegation of MPs to Uganda to cause a revolutionary demonstration because Museveni is proving to be unfit for the office,” he said.

The lawmaker further warned Museveni against killing the future of Ugandan youth saying Bobi Wine has the potential to be the next President.

His sentiments were echoed by Okelo who said Hon Kyagulanyi should be treated fairly.

“An injustice anywhere is an injustice everywhere. Our colleague Hon Kyagulanyi should be subjected to the proper rule of the law because we believe Uganda is not a banana republic. President Museveni must respect the rule of law,” reiterated Okelo.

Bobi Wine was arrested on August 14, 2018, after an incident in which security officers shot dead his driver Yasin Kawuma.

The deceased was shot near Hotel Pacific in Arua town on Monday evening and police officers claimed that the chaos that preceded the shooting was sparked off after Kassiano Wadri and Bobi Wine's supporters attacked the convoy of President Museveni.
