A 34-year-old mother of one who dropped out of school in 2000 due to lack of fees scored a C in last year's KCSE examinations.
Despite staying home for 13 years and giving birth to a girl who is now 10, Everlyn Achieng saved every extra coin she could lay her hands on to pursue a high school education. Ms Achieng joined Form One in 2013 and finally sat her KCSE exams last year.
"This was a bright and needy woman who only dropped out of school due to lack of school fees but who was determined to fulfill her dreams," said Safeguard Orphans and Widows (Sowo) co-ordinator Ken Atom.
Sowo sponsored Achieng's second attempt to complete secondary school.
