Mandera, Kenya: Mandera Governor Ali Roba’s convoy was on Thursday morning attacked by gunmen on Arabia-Omar Jilo road.
Several people were injured and one of his vehicles hijacked.
Police have, however, confirmed that Governor Roba is safe .
The convoy was on a visit in one of the divisions there when the attack happened. Al-Shabaab has since claimed it carried out the attack in Mandera.
Reports from Somalia say the terror group claimed so on one of their radio stations.

Security agencies are still pursuing the stolen vehicle but it's unclear if there were Kenyans on board.
The attack comes a day after the killing of the three top militants including Adan Garaar in Bardhere in Somalia in a drone attack.
It also comes days after new IG Joseph Boinett, an intelligence expert was sworn in.
