A police officer was on Sunday night robbed of his gun and shot dead in a botched robbery in Dandora, Nairobi.
Corporal Elkana Onchuru of the Administration Police attached to a local police post was in the company of three others and had tried to arrest a suspect for questioning when he was shot.
The corporal chased and caught up with the suspect and tried to wrestle him to the ground when he was shot in the chest.
"The officer did not know the suspect was armed and when he grabbed him, the suspect went for his pistol and shot him at close range, killing him on the spot," said an officer aware of the incident.
