LAMU, KENYA: Lamu governor Issa Timamy was last evening arrested over the recent killings in Mpeketoni and Kibaoni in the county.
Timamy had been summoned by police investigating the killings at the Lamu police station in the morning before the officers later detained him.
Police investigating the killings said he will appear before Mombasa court on Thursday. Interior PS Mutea Iringo confirmed the arrest.
Timamy had been in Nairobi for a meeting with Deputy President Ruto before he flew back to Lamu where he was summoned for questioning and later detained.
He was later driven to Mombasa where he is expected to take plea. More than 65 people have so far been killed in the violence that rocked the area.
