More than 300 families in drought-hit Tharaka District received food donations worth Sh300,000 from the Hindu Samaj council of Meru and the Kenya Red Cross Society.
Residents told the donors that many families are famine stricken. They appealed to Government and other wellwishers to come to their aid.
The chairman of Hindu Samaj Council in Meru Zeik Patel said their headquarters in Nairobi had asked them to donate food supplies in the region.
He thanked the Red Cross for helping them distribute the food to the needy.

A Mr Gitonga Mugambi, resident, said most school-going children were at the risk of dropping from school and some schools closing early due to the food crisis.
The supplies were donated to residents of Kamarangi and Kamanyaki locations of Tharaka District.
