About 4000 students from universities across Africa will battle for glory in 15 sports disciplines.
Kenyatta University will host the 2020 Federation of Africa University Sports (FASU) All Africa games set for August 17 to 21.
This will be the third time Kenya will be hosting the games that bring together students from universities across the continent, now in its 10th edition.
In 2014, the country successfully hosted the continental championships with the University of Nairobi (UON) staging both shows.
Kenyatta University Vice-Chancellor Professor Paul Wainaina recently launched the games, initiating the preparation phase of the five-day event that will see students battle it out in 15 disciplines.

Wainaina also commissioned the Local Organising Committee (LOC) chaired by Professor Godfrey Mse, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Finance and Development) with its members drawn from top management as well as other key stakeholders.
He also unveiled the games’ logo and the online registration portal in an event attended by Nderitu Gikaria, who is the Chairman Kenya National Sports Council.
Approximately 4,000 participants are expected to represent their universities and respective countries.
They will be competing for top honours in athletics, chess, swimming, taekwondo, 3x3 basketball, badminton, table tennis, tennis, woodball, billiard and snooker.
Other games are karate, basketball, football, volleyball, handball, rugby Sevens and netball.
A Pre-Games Scientific conference and Heads of Delegation meeting is also scheduled to take place in July 2020 at Kenyatta University.
Wainaina thanked FASU for entrusting the University with the games and urged the LOC to deliver the games at a standard that reflects Kenyatta University’s track record of excellence.
He was also confident that Kenyatta University teams shall put up a great display, based on their past performance record in the region.
“It is a great honour to be entrusted with the responsibility of hosting an event of such magnitude. I believe in our able LOC and I’m confident they will deliver a championship that echoes our high standards of excellence,” Wainaina said.
FASU Secretary General Peninnah Kabenge highlighted the opportunities that await participants including qualifying to represent Africa in the paid World Universities’ Leagues for the 2020 3x3 basketball and football in 2021.
“These games are worth looking forward to because they will create opportunities for those who excel, for instance, there are slots to represent Africa in global events later this year and in 2021.
FASU is an affiliate of the International University Sports (FISU).
