Francis Kimanzi believes his new signings will help Tusker recapture the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) trophy at the end of the season.

The club’s bid to regain the title got a massive boost with the coach securing the signature of seven players. The new team was unveiled yesterday at Ruaraka grounds.

The biggest catch was 2012 Player of the Year Kevin Kimani (from Greece), Bob Mugalia (Sofapaka) and former KCB duo Brian Osumba and Clifford Alwanga. Other players who have joined the Tusker camp are Duncan Wafula from Busia United, and Rodgers Omondi and Farouk Shikalo from Nationwide side Talanta FC.

“I can’t complain of the quality of our new players. We are very lucky that we have one of the best squad selections in the league. This year, I believe that the quality players we have integrated into our team will put up a strong challenge in the KPL,” said Kimanzi.

Besides his new signings, Tusker will be relying on the predatory Jesse Were to continue his impressive form that yielded 14 goals last season.

“We always expect the best from Jesse. It’s a new season that has new coaches and new teammates around him. He also has a stronger midfield which has been working to provide him better service,” added Kimanzi.

The ten time champions open their 2014 campaign with three daunting clashes against Thika United, Western Stima and Gor. However, Kimanzi is not fazed by the challenge thrown at his charges as the season gains momentum.

“It’s a positive fixture list. You can’t choose which team you want to play against whether it’s just been promoted or established. I’m happy with the way we progressed during the pre-season and the confidence that the players have,” said Kimanzi.

Tusker Brand Manager Antony Esyalai believes the team can make a mark this season by producing a credible performance in the league and qualifying for continental football.

“The brand’s support of Tusker FC fits very well within our strategy to develop talent and improve the standards of football in the region,” said Esyalai.

“We congratulate the club on their achievements and also encourage the players to continue flying the Tusker FC and Kenyan flags high as they start the new season. We urge all our fans to rally behind the team to reach new heights.”
