Kenya roll over Rwanda as Rollball World Cup starts

Kenya started their campaign in the second edition of  the Rollball World Cup, with a 12-0 win over Rwanda on the first day of the championship at the Moi Sports Centre Kasarani on Thursday.

Dan Imbaya scored an opener for Kenya, with Philip Akafu, Geofrey Musa, Albert Omwaro and Moses Atenya scoring one each for the hosts in the first half.

The home boys added seven more scores to register their first win.

Defending champions Denmark beat United Arab Emirates (UAE) 4-0 in the opening match of the contest.

Denmark scored their first goal in the fourth minute through Soren Brinklov. They continued attacking and their efforts bore fruit, with Thomas Sondergaard scoring a second after ten minutes to settle the score at 2-0.

As the match progressed, Denmark showed their supremacy, dominating the match and executing great passes and hard shots against their opponents.

The UAE goalkeeper was kept busy duty punching shots away but he was not lucky after conceding two late goals.

After the breather, both teams intensified attacks, with UAE  gaining  confidence and winning a penalty that Arash Salmanpour scored. It was, however, disallowed.

In the second match of the day, India started on a high note, scoring in the earlier minutes of the match and forcing Tanzania to trail 10-2 in the first half.

India lost two penalties in the second half, with Tanzania’s only hope of lessening the gap going to waste when they lost one penalty.

India added seven other scores to make it 17-2 by the end of the match – the highest score in the tournament so far.

Matches kick off at 9am this morning.
