Sofapaka, Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) and Gor Mahia all made it to the quarter-finals of the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Cup after winning their matches, on Saturday.

Sofapaka who are the tournament’s defending champions were the biggest winners after thumping Mahakama 4-2 at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.

Humphrey Mieno netted a treble scoring his first early in the third minute then added two more in the 30th and 47th minute of the match.

Osborne Monday, who was making his return to Sofapaka after a long lay off due to injury, scored the fourth goal for the winners in the 72nd minute.

Mahakama were lifted by goals from Ambrose Kamau in the 29th minute and a late goal by Brian Kaka.

There was never really any doubt about Sofapaka’s superiority in the match and they seemed to dominate every department with their opponents clearly at a loss on what to do.

In another match, division one side KRA beat lower league side Wazito 2-1 at Hope Centre.

The winners took the lead in the 22nd minute through Collins Tiego. The lead, however, lasted for just five minutes as Collins Omondi netted the equaliser from a free kick taken from the 25 yards out.

The tax men, however, did not take the threat lightly and had to push forward to break down Wazito, which they did just before the half time break.

As the tax men stepped up the pressure, Wazito were forced into making mistakes and just before the half time Dennis Onyango handled in the box and the referee pointed at the penalty spot.

Taking the resultant kick, Richard Likhabu did not hesitate sending Wazito goalkeper Jacob Osano the wrong way.

The second half belonged to KRA but despite their efforts to go ahead they could not beat the resilient defense of the lower division side who were resolute on keeping the score sheet low.

Gor Mahia edged out Western Stima 6-5 on post match penalties at City Stadium. Moses Otieno had scored for Gor in the 13th minute before Ali Bhai equalized for the visitors in the 22nd minute.

Fred Simonye, Mark Sirengo, Aloise Mangi and Job Omuse scored Stima’s penalties while Ivan Anguyo, Kevin Omondi, Moses Odhiambo, Donald Mosoti and Dan Sserunkuma scored for Gor.

In the only Kenyan Premier League (KPL) match played yesterday, Chemelil Sugar stopped Ulinzi Stars 1-0.

Jared Omwenga scored the only goal for Chemelil in the 20th minute.
