Naivasha, Kenya: The government has banned all political or tribal meetings in Naivasha town and its suburbs following rising tension.

This came as anxiety gripped the town following the arrival of the body of one of the Mpeketoni victims, Nicholas Mwangi, who hailed from one of the estates.

The move saw government officers, political and religious leaders convene a press conference to assure locals that all was well and that security had been beefed up.

Addressing the press, Naivasha sub-county security committee said that security had been beefed up and called on area residents to ignore rumors.

Naivasha Sub County Commissioner Mohammed Abass admitted that the rumors were a recipe for chaos noting that security officers were on high alert.

He said that they would be holding peace public barazas in all wards adding that no meeting would be allowed in the town.

“We have banned all political or tribal meetings in the town as they are the cause of tension and we are assuring everybody that Naivasha is very peaceful,” he said.

Naivasha MP John Kihagi supported the move adding that the planned TNA recruitment in the town had been postponed for a month.

The legislator blamed the tension in the town to Mpeketoni killings.

“Today we are burying one man who was killed in Mpeketoni attack,” he said.
