A police constable presented himself to the OCS of Nanyuki Police Station after going into hiding for over one week following a botched robbery.

Police in Nanyuki town have been hunting for two suspects, including the officer, after a botched robbery targeting a man with Sh800,000 proceeds from sale of land.

Laikipia East Deputy OCPD Maurice Guddah said the suspect was accompanied by his wife and some women.

“He surrendered himself to Nanyuki Police Station and he is now under investigations,” said Mr Guddah.

Laikipia East OCPD Joshua Lutukai said the officer was stationed at Umande Police Station in Ndaiga Division.
One suspect was shot dead and another police officer was arrested during the incident.

Mr Lutukai said the four were planning to rob a reveller of Sh800,000 at a local bar.

A Taurus pistol loaded with three bullets was recovered during the Monday 7pm incident. The pistol was assigned to one of the police officers.

“We acted on a tip-off from the public and raided the restaurant, where we shot one of the robbers dead and arrested a police officer. The other officer and his accomplice escaped in a waiting vehicle, but we are hunting them down,” he said.
Lutukai said the officer who was  on the run has already been interdicted.
