A Nyamira Court was on Monday shocked after a man confessed to beating and defiling his one-and-half year-old daughter.

The Court was told that Bernard Omayio Kegwaro had beaten the child on the buttocks, causing physical harm to her.

Kegwaro was charged by resident Magistrate Alice Towett that on September 27 at Nyamiacho Village in Bomwagamo, North Mugirango, he sexually molested the child besides beating her.

In a bald shave, black trench coat and cream pair of trousers, the father pleaded guilty to all the offences.

Prosecution told the Court that on the said date, the mother left the child with her father and went to pick coffee.

Upon returning home at around 6.30pm, she found the daughter crying, and the father bathed her.

On closely examining her, she discovered that the toddler had been defiled and that blood was oozing from her private part.

The minor was rushed to Nyamira Referral Hospital for treatment where she was discharged on the same day in stable condition.

On Monday, the man was subjected to sentencing for the counts of assault and causing bodily harm to the infant.

Kegwaro, an ex-convict told the Court that he never intended to harm the baby and that he was only exorcising some strange snake which he saw around the child.

It could not be immediately revealed by Prosecution the details of the accused person's previous conviction.

The Court demanded for a pre-sentencing report from the probation office before pronouncing the ultimate verdict.
