KENYA: Police now claim they cannot trace the man who reported he had allegedly been assaulted by Nairobi Women’s Representative Rachel Shebesh.

The alleged assault victim, said to be working as a security officer at the time of the incident, recorded a statement at the Kileleshwa Police Station on July 17.

Police claim he has since gone into hiding.

According to Kilimani OCPD Peter Kattam, the man who claimed to have been slapped by Shebesh had travelled to the Coast (believed to be his home) and had not filed the P3 form he had been issued with when he reported the incident.

“The victim travelled to the Coast and we have not heard from him since then, neither has he filed the P3 form he was issued with after recording his statement,” he said.

Intimidation claims

The OCPD was speaking from his office in Kilimani, Nairobi, during a Press briefing Tuesday.

However, in a contradictory statement, Kattam said they had been in contact with the victim four days ago but they did not have any idea where he was at the moment.

According to Ndiritu Njoka, chairman of Maendeleo ya Wanaume, there was an invisible hand controlling the case since nothing had been done three months after the victim recorded statement.

“I believe since the police do not know the whereabouts of the victim, his life may be in danger,” said Njoka, adding that the matter was sensitive because it involved a high-profile politician and that the man might have been intimidated hence his disappearing act.

Njoka vowed to follow up the case until justice was served.
