Kenyan sprinter Ferdinand Omanyala bagged a silver for the first time in the 100m after losing at the 24th Internationales Leichtathletik meeting at the Paul Greifzu Stadium in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany on Wednesday night.

Kenya's sensational sprinter clocked 10.14secs, just ten seconds behind the winner.

Omanyala surrendered to Sri Lankan Mudiyanselage Yupun Abeykoon who crossed the tape to his new Personal best time of 10.04secs.

The Sri Lankan had played a second fiddle to Omanyala in the Heats, where the Kenyan had clocked a slow time of 10.23secs to win after a slow start off the blocks.

Even in the heats, Abeykoon had recovered in the final 40m of the race but Omanyala had long wrapped up his win.

Omanyala lost three seconds from his previous personal best he posted in a successful race he took in Italy, where he won in a record time of 10.11secs.

The 26-year old Omanyala will now turn his focus to the Golden Spike Meeting in Ostrava, a World Athletics Continental Gold Label race which is set to take place next week where he will face off with his sprint icon Yohan Blake.
