Remember South African actress Leleti Khumalo who played Sarafina in the 1990s apartheid inspired film Sarafina?
She will be the chief guest at this year’s Zanzibar International Film Festival, alongside internationally renowned hip-hop recording artist, actor and activist Mos Def.
Leleti will host the South Africa Day events as well as special screenings of some of her films.
Homegrown favourites from Tanzania mainland Vanessa Mdee, Christian Bella, Ya Moto Band and Weusi and Baby J, Smile, and Sultan King from Zanzibar are some of the acts set to perform from July 18 to 26 at the Mambo Club at The Old Fort, Stone Town.
Other acts include, Antique, the amazing singer-songwriter from the US, who was commissioned by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) to write a song for their Women in African History curriculum.
