A 27-year-old warder at Kakamega Prison shot in the air eight times to express his distress yesterday after looking at a duty rota that he felt did not favour him.
The warder caused a security scare among colleagues, prompting the alarm to go off for some minutes, until he was restrained.
The officer in charge, Silas M'tambu, feared the soldier may have developed a medical case and escorted him to the Kakamega County General Hospital for check-up.
"My boy is normally a hard-working officer with a clean record but he surprised us by shooting in the air. We can say little about it at the moment until a medical report is out," he said.
