Ingwe's woeful run was extended after they suffered another 1-0 loss, this time to Tusker FC.

What I was expecting was a draw, but even that proved futile, akin to trying to harvest onions from a mango tree.

It was unrealistic to hope that perhaps this match would be a 'Damascus' moment, a decisive turnaround, after being winless in six rounds of matches.

First of all, Tusker were on a six-match winning streak. Secondly, the brewers have won 11 league titles, two shy of Ingwe's record, therefore they are a formidable opponent.

Thirdly, Tusker have always been a tough nut to crack for Ingwe, our proverbial Achilles heel!

Previous encounters with Tusker tell a story of a team that is unfazed by the Leopard's claws.

In 1986, Tusker vowed to end Ingwe's unbeaten run in the last league and drew first blood, scoring the opening goal. Ingwe had to rally to score an equaliser.

In 1990, Ingwe were hunting for a third consecutive league title having won in 1988 and 1989, while Tusker were fighting relegation.

It is said that you cannot win a battle against a man who has everything to lose; Tusker beat Ingwe and knocked them out the league's contention.

In 1996, both teams were level on points at the top of the league, although Ingwe had a better goal difference. The league decider was a match between the two.

A draw would have assured Ingwe of victory. The teams were level 1-1 until the 89th minute when Tusker scored and spoilt the party!

All encounters after 1998 have ended either in a draw or Tusker beating Ingwe. The record was only broken in 2014 when Ingwe beat Tusker 1-0 in the first leg and 3-2 in the GOtv Shield quarterfinal.

In 2012- 2013, Ingwe were unbeaten in 23 matches until Tusker halted that superb run. Last year, Ingwe gifted Tusker the league when the lost 1-0 in the second last match of the league.

In other news, Gor drew once more against Posta Rangers. Thank you Shemejis for joining our 'caucus' of comeback football.

I hope that as Ingwe cools off its heels in the season break, lethal strikers will be signed to sharpen its claws.

We are waiting.
