It is no longer news when students are found 'pirating' (a
term used to mean sharing beds) in higher institutions of learning.
This is usually the result of a student intake that is
higher than the accommodation available.
This matter has been a festering wound since the cluster
points for joining campus were reduced thus making it possible for many
students to enroll.
To the chagrin of many, some colleges have large tracts of
land lying idle and one wonders - why can't they build more rooms?

Some universities like Maseno have a lot of land, which if
well utilized could accommodate all the students within the campus.
However, the stumbling block has always been that the
institutions lack funds to develop accommodation facilities.
As much as the Government wants to ensure quality education
at that level, it should not be forgotten that the student's also require good
accommodation, which is in tandem with quality education.
The issue of accommodation should be dealt with once and for
all because you cannot enroll students whom you cannot accommodate.
