Christians remember terror attack on Garissa church

Christians in Garissa Sunday held inter-dominational prayers to commemorate the terror bombing of African Inland Church four years ago.

It was a sombre mood as worshippers remembered the attack that killed 20 people. Others sustained injuries in the attack that was claimed by Al-Shabaab.

Speaking at the function, Garissa County Commissioner James Kianda said security had improved in the area due to intelligence sharing between the public and security agents.

The hooded gunmen stormed the church, which is located within Garissa town, on July 1, 2012 and went on a shooting spree.

Hundreds of worshippers, families and friends from different denominations gathered at the church to remember those who perished in the hands of the terrorists.

Pastor Eliud Mule, while thanking the Government for improving security and giving them moral support, urged the State to do more for the victims who are still undergoing treatment in various hospitals.

"We have faithful who suffered broken bones. Another one has a grenade shrapnel stuck near his ear. They still require medical assistance from the Government," he said.
