I would wish to draw everyone’s attention to the wanton neglect of Ngariama lane which is arguably the worst road in Nairobi city center by far.

This is the lane between River Road and Keekorock road running down from the Roast House restaurant down towards Gariama road.

It hosts thousands of small and mid-sized businesses and is a source of livelihoods for tens of thousands of Nairobi Residents.

The drainage is horrendous, full of potholes and to make matters worse it’s a dumpsite for all the surrounding hotels and restaurants.

It also hosts quite a large number of street families who openly use and sell drugs in broad daylight, defecate and do all manner of horrible things.

Things have been made much worse by the recent heavy rains. I watched in horror as dirty, dark smelly water and garbage spilled into people’s shops and offices.

Nairobi water and sewerage workers frantically tried to collect the water using Lorries but it was like the old adage of fetching water with gunny bags.

One would be forgiven to think that someone left out this road neglected on purpose.

Our cries to the city council of Nairobi have fallen on deaf ears. The business community along Ngariama lane in Nairobi’s city center and the neighboring River road and Keekorock road are a suffering lot.

We have incurred huge losses due to no business and needless to say exposure to numerous health hazards and inconveniences.

When the city residents voted for our good governor they thought he was a professional and having a long corporate résumé, he would bring tangible change for the benefit of the business in the city.

It has been a broken promise after another. From deadly condemned buildings to hawkers selling similar products in front one’s shops and parked matatus blocking entrances.

We even have “hotlines” to call if you see someone littering. Even if you call these numbers no action is taken.

It’s a shame happening right in the middle of town. Are we going back to the old KANU city?
