Teachers Service Commission (TSC) Chairperson Lydia Nzomo has asked teachers to sign performance contracts.

Dr Nzomo said all senior officials in the Ministry of Education, including the TSC Chief Executive Officer and herself, had signed the documents and it was now time for all teachers to do the same.

She assured the teachers that the documents would not be used for witch-hunting.

She denied claims that other industry players were not involved in preparation of the appraisal documents.

Speaking at Shanzu Teachers Training College in Mombasa,  Nzomo said appraisals would form the "bare minimum" in gauging teachers' performance.

However, local teachers' union officials accused TSC of intimidation and declared TSC hostile to teachers.
