NAIROBI: The new Teachers Service Commission (TSC) Chairperson Lydia Nzomo was sworn in during a brief ceremony attended by the Chief Justice Willy Mutunga.
Dr Nzomo later pledged to exercise her duties with diligence. "I will exercise my duties as TSC chairperson to the best of my ability," she said.
The swearing in of the TSC boss comes a day after Kenya National Union of Teachers threatened to call a strike next month if teachers do not get an increase in pay and allowances.
Nzomo pledged to resolve the pay stalemate as soon as she starts work. "The issue of recalling workers in those areas has not only affected teachers, it has affected other civil servants. I will sit with the commission in addressing this matter."
Prior to being nominated to the position, Nzomo was Chief Executive of Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development.
