KITUI, KENYA: Kitui County Government will increase the mandatory reserve for youth, women and the disabled in the government tenders from 30 per cent to 40 per cent in order to empower marginalised social groups in the county.
Governor Julius Malombe said his government had deliberately crafted the Community Level Infrastructure Programme which provides over Sh4 million for each ward to finance projects in specific sectors.
“This year we have allocated Sh4.3 million to the programme and for the forty wards to initiate projects on roads, education, health and water sectors”, said Malombe.
He was speaking to members of the Akamba council of elders led by the chairman Titus Mbathi who met at a Nairobi Hotel.

The governor said the projects range from Sh1 million and below and are spread out in the county’s 40 wards.
He said the programme which will run for 5 years will provide employment for youth and empower small and medium businesses by allowing them to access government tenders.
Dr Malombe said only contractors from the wards, youth, women and disabled were eligible for the tenders adding that no one was allowed to take more than one project tender.
