Bungoma, Kenya: A middle-aged woman died on the spot in Bungoma town after a motorcycle she had boarded was hit by a train.
The woman, who was with her young child at the time of the accident, fell on the railway track and had her head decapitated. The child and the motorcycle rider escaped with minor injuries.
Eyewitnesses told The Standard that the motorcyclist, who was ferrying the woman to town, disregarded the hooting of the train thus causing the accident.The train was ferrying goods from Uganda.
“The motorcyclist was in great hurry, he tried to cross the railway track before the oncoming train that was hooting. The train knocked down the motorcycle killing the woman instantly,” said an eyewitness.

The accident caused a heavy traffic snarl-up in the town, with curious members of the public flocking the scene where the woman’s decapitated head and torso lay.
The body of the deceased was moved to Bungoma District Hospital mortuary by policemen who also arrested the motorcycle rider.
He is currently locked up at the Bungoma Police Station waiting to be arraigned in court.
