Deputy President William Ruto’s wife, Rachel, has urged women to embrace table banking through their groups to eradicate poverty.

She said the concept required innovative minds and co-operation, adding that women from over 13 counties had embraced and benefited from the banking system.

“Women economic empowerment is key to the growth of any nation. Through capacity building, the concept also transforms women into information vessels,” said Mrs Ruto said during the launch of the concept in Kisii County.

She reiterated the importance of empowering women and advised leaders to utilise the available resources and fertile soil in the area for the county’s economic growth.

Kisii County Governor James Ongwae promised to promote women activities in the region to enable them develop economically.

“This is a noble idea and I have directed my minister in charge to set aside resources to support the concept in the county,” said Ongwae.

The governor noted with appreciation the efforts by Mrs Ruto in empowering women, particularly those from rural areas.
