Nyandarua Governor Daniel Waithaka repossesses public land

Nyandarua, Kenya: Drama ensued at Kariamu, Nyandarua County when Governor Daniel Waithaka led a team of his Executive in taking over a land that had allegedly been grabbed by a private developer.

The 96-acre piece meant for the construction of Nyandarua Institute of Science and Technology has been embroiled in controversy over ownership for more than a decade.

The governor in possession of a letter from the National Land Commission ordered the owner of the land, John Njuguna, out in the next three days.

“I have been given this letter by the National Land Commission and it is my duty to protect the interests of the people of Nyandarua. That is why I want to make sure that the illegal owners of this land are moved to create way for the construction of facilities useful to my people,” said Mr Waithaka.

 The land in question is LR Ol’Kalou-Salient 11. The Governor was accompanied by his deputy Waithaka Mwangi, County chief officers Nderi Ndiani (Lands), Charles Chiuri (Roads), Agatha Thuo (Agriculture) and George Kimani (Public Service).
