The Nandi community marked the 104th anniversary since the assassination of legendary leader Koitalel arap Samoei.
Samoei was killed on October 19, 1905, at the height of British occupation in Kenya.
On Monday, members of the community led by Industrialisation Minister Henry Kosgey met at Nandi Hills to pay tribute to the legend.
"We will contribute towards the construction of an equipped Museum at Nandi Hills in Samoei’s honour," said Mr Kosgey.
He told the gathering further research is needed to establish atrocities committed against the locals by the British colonialists.
Col Richard Meinertzhagen assassinated Samoei and 23 others after lying to them he wanted to initiate peace talks. The anniversary held at Koitalel Samoei Mausoleum brought together members of his Talai clan from the Rift Valley.
The Government committed Sh58 million for the construction of the museum, two years ago.
Research facility
So far, Sh20 million has been disbursed through the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage.
Some Sh4 million constructed the mausoleum, while the remaining Sh16 million will be used to construct a curio shop, toilets, mini conference hall and a fence.
The remaining Sh38 million will be used for a research facility with artefacts collected from all over Africa.
The museum will also have hospitality facilities, an arboretum, traditional homesteads and a small wildlife sanctuary.
