When the Kenya Airways plane from Paris touched down at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport on Monday evening, one of the most influential African Soukouss and Rumba musicians from Democratic Republic of Congo disembarked. Mbenzu Ngamboni Boskill, better known as Bozi Boziana, is set to stage performances from tonight.
The down-to-earth singer, guitarist, band leader and composer, who is visiting the country for the fifth time, promised a heart-shaking show.
Speaking to this writer at Jomo Kenyatta Airport, Boziana confirmed he will be performing in Nairobi, courtesy of Kenyan-based Congolese promoter Jules Nsana of Nsana Promotions.
The first show will be tonight (New Year's Eve) at Safari Park Hotel, with entry being Sh5,800 inclusive of dinner. The other one will be on New Year's Day at Machakos Park.
The much-anticipated show dubbed 'Bozi Boziana Reloaded' will see the celebrated musician give his Kenyan fans a taste of his new music and latest dancing style.
"This is one show you cannot afford to miss. I want my fans and the entire Kenyan generation to know that I have lots of surprises for them. Mine is a unique style of international Rumba and Soukouss with a difference," said the multiple award winner for Best Congolese Artiste.
Known for his tasteful dressing, energetic stage performance and bewitching vocals, Boziana promises to thrill fans with some of his captivating songs including Pere Noel Confiance, Jowel Photo, Tembe na Tembe, Mifune, Popo, Lubuaku, Mitshuri, Sisina and Santa.
He said he would perform popular tracks from his latest album, Fiko Fiko Fion. "I want Kenyans to be entertained. I believe this is the best treat I can ever give to them considering it has been a while since I performed here," said the musician who has more than ten albums under his cap. He added: "My songs are aimed at entertaining, educating and passing on messages to the community.
Fondly referred to as Mzee Kijana by some Kenyan fans, he displays lots of confidence. Looking fit and relaxed, the 63-year-old with more than 10 albums under his belt seems to have lost none of his flamboyant sense of fashion and wit.
