After protracted wrangles and court battles, Ford-Kenya will today hold a National Delegates Conference (NDC) to elect party officials.

In a statement read by Cabinet Minister John Munyes, the party explained branch officials who were elected in the recently concluded grassroots elections had converged in Nairobi ready for the exercise at Bomas of Kenya.

"The party’s grassroots elections were conducted without a hitch except for 30 constituencies where the elections were repeated. We have officials from the country’s 210 constituencies ready for the exercise," said Munyes.

During a press conference attended by Sirisia MP Moses Wetangula and his Kimilili counterpart Eseli Simiyu, the party said preparations for the elections had been finalised.

Munyes who, who is Ford-Kenya’s secretary general, explained that the tenure of all members of National Executive Committee (NEC) expired on December 20, last year and dismissed any claims of purported resignations.

"Any purported resignation as has been erroneously alluded in the media is therefore a contradiction in terms as the party has no officials at this time," he said.

The party also denied that Saboti MP Eugene Wamalwa had paid Sh1 million to contest for the position of chairman.

"In the run up to the aborted NDC last year Wamalwa paid the mandatory Sh500,000 required for the position of chairman of the party and collected membership cards worth Sh1 million which are yet to be paid," the statement read in part.

Wetangula said he would be vying for the position of party leader and called on all leaders interested in party positions to declare their candidature.
