Western Stima midfielder Kenneth Muguna said hard work and motivation at the club were crucial to him being named last season’s Most Valuable Player (MVP).
The 20-year-old becomes the youngest player to win the award. Other than being named MVP, he was also named the midfielder of the year and was runner-up in the New Player of the year category.
With all that, he walked home with a cool Sh1.6 million cash, the highest in all awards.
Muguna’s incredible night started when he was first named runner-up to Gor Mahia’s Eric Ouma in the New Player of the Year contest. Then his moment of glory came after he scooped the midfielder of the year award, before landing the most coveted prize of the night; Most Valuable Player. A clearly overwhelmed, Muguna said: “ I am glad and thankful for the awards. It has been a great season for me on the pitch where I gave my best and always knew my work will be rewarded at the end, and it has happened.
“My gratitude goes to my club and especially, coach Henri Omino, who has been a father figure to all of us at the club,” he said.
With the win comes numerous interests from premier league clubs, but the star is ready for any offer.
”If an opportunity comes to move, then I have to consider critically before making my move. My next move has to be to a bigger club, either here or abroad.”
Already, big guns Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards are said to be preparing offers for the midfielder.
Before joining Stima, Muguna was at National Super League (NSL) side Palos. Despite this being his first KPL season, he was named the player of the month once and helped the power men finish sixth, scoring four goals in the process.
This performance earned him his maiden call-up to the national team Harambee Stars.
Eric ‘Marcelo’ Ouma, another sensation in the just concluded season and who was named new player of the year, was grateful for the recognition, considering it was his first time in top flight football.
“It was my first time in KPL and to end the season with such an award, is great achievement. I did not expect it this soon. This can only motivate me to do more next season,” he said.
Paul Nkata of Tusker, who won the coach of the year award.
