Garissa county governor Nathif Jama on Thursday revealed that revenue collection in his administration has improved from Sh2 million to Sh11 million in a less than two months following strict measures within the period. 

In a press statement,  the governor said the upsurge in revenue collection, was made possible after his government sealed off all loopholes that was responsible for diversion of revenue during and after collections. 

Jama directed the county revenue office to be innovative and upgrade the revenue collection process to ensure that, no money from the county goes into wrong pockets. 

“As a county government we must dissuade our planning from the old practice of limiting option of financing developmental projects from the national allocation, but we must generate enough revenue locally to gap our fiscal deficit,” he advised.  

He urged the county executive members to come up with a weekly development program schedules indicating engagements timetable. He reiterated his previous warning against non-performing civil servants.
