Machakos, Kenya: Some members of the Machakos County Assembly have been accused of contradicting the governor’s official statements.

Kathiani MP Mr Robert Mbui said it was unfortunate for the MCAs to assume the role of the governor by issuing statements they cannot substantiate.

Mr Mbui was reacting to claims by the MCAs who included the leader of Majority Joshua Mwonga, and his minority counterpart, Thomas Kasoa, that education bursaries recently launched by the governor, Dr Alfred Mutua had reached the intended schools.

While addressing a public rally at Mitaboni market in his constituency, the MP had complained to the governor that the Sh80 million education bursary kit he launched had not reached the beneficiaries.

The governor who was also present at the meeting said it was the treasury that had not yet released the money and that everything would be done to pursue the fund.

NEGATIVE PROPAGANDA

But before the governor could clear the air on the matter, several MCAs who took to the podium accused the MP of misleading the public insisting the funds had already reached the schools.

The MCAs said the MP was among politicians who were pulling down the governor’s development efforts by spreading negative propaganda. Then the governor shot up to speak only to give a different explanation.

“Yes, I am aware of the matter but it is unfortunate that the Controller of Budget is yet to release the money, which my office has then been pursuing,’’ said the governor.

The governor however insisted there was no point of anybody raising the matter in public forums since the relevant offices to consult for the same were wide open.

Mr Mbui said the beneficiaries have been asking his office why the money had not reached the schools. He said it was fair for leaders to be honest instead of confusing the public.

He said the governor was putting every effort to bring development to the county but it is unfortunate some MCAs were confusing the public on the ground by giving contradicting reports.

DIVISIVE POLITICS

“The MCAs should stop the propaganda and let the governor work freely if they have no substantial advise or assistance for him,’’ he added.

The MP at the same time appealed to the governor to work independently and ignore elements spreading hatred and divisive politics.

“I will never shy off from anything when solving problems affecting my people,’’ he said.

The governor cautioned politicians against spending time on “public outbursts” that could not only divide the people of the county but incite them against other leaders.

“I am ready to work with anybody whose vision is for the good of the people of my county and not those interested in witch-hunting,’’ he added.

The governor said his government will ensure each of the 40 wards in the county get greenhouses to boost women enterprise groups.

“My government will also allocate Sh50 million for the empowerment of the youth in the county,’’ he said.
