Does the name Caren Jepkemei ring a bell to you? If you haven’t been catching up with what’s been happening in the modelling and fashion world, Caren is one of the few African models making it big on the international runway. Now you know.
Jepkemei who has become a firm fashion favourite among fashion editors and designer houses, has walked in almost every notable show in the past year. From Balmain to Valentino to Alberta Ferretti, the Kenyan born model has done it all.
Last year, she hit a huge milestone when she landed a Vogue Italia cover posing alongside Ethiopian model Akway Amar while donning classy bodysuits with shinny golden shoes.
“Finally, I’ve had a big dream come true. So proud to have finally made it to the cover of Vogue Italy with my sister Amar from Ethiopia”, an elated Jepkemei wrote on Twitter.
“Last year was such an amazing year for me. When the year began, I didn’t know how much I was gonna achieve by the end of it, but at the end, I had worked for the most amazing brands and ended up having such an amazing breakthrough”, she said in an interview with OkayAfrica.
She further added on the interview that she hopes to work with more brands in future and her dreams are slowly turning into reality.
“I’m wishing that it becomes an amazing year. There’s those brands that I’ve been wishing to do as a model, and I’m hoping that this year, I achieve my dreams and also grow even bigger as a model”, she was quoted in the interview last year.
Well, 2022 started on a high for Caren as she strudded the runway in the recently concluded New York Fashion Week featuring designs by renowned designers. She seems to be living her dream as she has also worked and will continue to work with some of the biggest modelling brands in the world.
Despite enjoying the success that has come with her modelling career, she had some wise words for aspiring models.
“To the new models who want to reach greater heights, all I can say to them is, being a model comes with lots of sacrifices and commitment,” she concluded on the interview.
