A woman has been charged with stealing panties and other clothes worth Sh4,690.
Ann Mwende appeared before Milimani Chief Magistrate Wendy Kagendo and denied the charge which stated that on December 19, 2022 at Naivas Supermarket in Development House on Moi Avenue, she stole the valuables.
The charge sheet indicated that she stole one piece Fridali ladies sling bag, four pieces of Tawamu boys boxers, inner pants and one piece Xuanglang boys blue trouser, the property of the supermarket.
The other count Mwende is facing is that on the same day and at the supermarket in the course of stealing, she dishonestly retained the valuables while knowing that she had stolen them.
She denied all the charges and told the court she was arrested while going to the customer care to make an inquiry.
"Your honour, I admit I was with the valuables at the supermarket but I was headed to the customer care when I was arrested. I had not stolen them," Mwende told the court.
The magistrate ordered that a probation report be presented to her so that she can determine her bail terms after she said she was unable to pay a cash bail of Sh20,000 that Kagendo had ordered her to pay to secure her freedom.
"Your honour, I can only afford a cash bail of Sh5,000. I have no job and I can't afford Sh20,000," she said.
