The ceremonial meeting has been a tradition for outgoing presidents. In 2002, Kenya's second president Daniel Arap Moi held a meeting with his successor Mwai Kibaki and his wife Lucy Kibaki, followed by a tour of State House.
In 2013, Mwai Kibaki hosted Uhuru Kenyatta for a similar. Later, Kibaki met with both Uhuru and Ruto before the inauguration of the duo.
Six days ago, following the Supreme Court judgment that upheld the victory of William Ruto, Uhuru Kenyatta gave an assurance that he would oversee a smooth transition of the next administration.
"In keeping to the pledge that I made to uphold the rule of law when I took the oath of office, I commit to executing the orders of this court to the letter. Process of handing over is in progress through the assumption of office committee," said Kenyatta.
