In 2013, CORD leader Raila Odinga contested the outcome of the elections. He sued the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), President-elect Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto. The Supreme Court dismissed the petition.

In 2017, the apex court overturned Uhuru's win, paving way for a repeat election.

Koome eulogised her aunt as someone who encouraged and mentored her while growing up.

She described her as a "sister" who went out of her way to support and encourage her family in the village.

"I grew up thinking I was Salome's daughter. She was my mother's best friend," the CJ told the mourners.

Others who attended the burial were former Interior PS Mutea Iringo, former Methodist Church of Kenya presiding bishop Lawi Imathiu and several local leaders.

She was hailed as a servant who helped in community development.
