While I am all for good personal grooming for women, it irks me when the patriarchy tries to control women’s follicles. Apparently, there are quite a few men who expect women to keep their bikini lines, underarms and legs hairless at all times otherwise they don’t want to have sex with them.
Since when did body hair become a turn off? Listen up gentlemen; a woman’s body cannot be perfectly smooth every day. It is impossible unless she works in the adult film industry. There she is expected to be perfectly shaved at all times because it is part of her job.
In fact, I blame the adult film industry for creating this unrealistic expectation about women’s bodies! If you want a woman who will be perfectly shaved at all times, find yourself a porn star. Simple.
First of all, shaving is a tedious chore that is extremely time consuming. It takes a lot of time to painstakingly vanquish all hair from some very sensitive areas! Secondly, the hair grows back so freaking fast that you would have to shave at least every other day if you want to stay completely hairless at all times to please these clueless men.
That is a lot of time that could be spent doing more important things like scaling up the corporate ladder. Lastly, I don’t think I need to tell you about all the nasty and painful stuff we have to deal with when we shave. There are nicks and razor burns and ingrown hairs.
If you think a nick on your chin is painful, just imagine a nick in your inner thighs! Not to forget the post- shaving itch! To make matters worse, you would probably end up shaving over it again because the hair will have grown back before you get a chance to fully heal. Yikes!
Of course, there is the option of waxing but it is damn expensive and not to mention sheer torture. So much trouble, and for what? Why do we put ourselves through that? If you are going to spend all that time (And money).
Shaving creams and after-shave lotions don’t come cheap either) scraping a blade across your legs, underarms and bikini line, do it for yourself, not because some male chauvinist likes you that way.
Women need to understand that body hair has nothing to do with sex appeal. You don’t become less attractive just because you have a little body hair and any man that thinks otherwise is a chauvinistic pig that you shouldn’t be having sex with in the first place.
It is only very immature men who would be repulsed by the existence of a woman’s hair follicles. A little hair isn’t going to deter a real man from sleeping with a woman. The bottom line is, at the end of the day it is your choice if you want to go bald or au naturel.
If au naturel is a deal breaker for the man that you are seeing then too bad. In fact, I can’t think of a better way to weed out these immature, superficial guys. Let your body hair grow wild for a while and watch his reaction. If he starts to freak out and asks you to get rid of it, get rid of him.
