It could be true that falling in love really does makes one stupid. Being in love can make even the most sensible of people giddy, foolish and ridiculous. We have all done some outrageously stupid things because we were feeling insecure in the relationship and we wanted to make sure our significant other stayed happy, especially in the early stages of the relationship.

I'll be the first to admit that I have done some questionable things for love. I don't even want to get into the details of the embarrassing things I have done in the name of love! However, being stupid in love is completely different and sweet compared to being downright foolish.

There is an important line to be drawn, a boundary for which love isn't worth crossing over for and it is sad that I am seeing young girls crossing it every day. Ladies, why do you clean, cook and do laundry for men who aren't your husbands and you aren't living with? It is utterly absurd!

My cousin Sheila is the embodiment of the phrase 'stupid in love'. She met her boyfriend Mark just three months ago and she is completely taken by him. I ran into Sheila last week and I asked her if she was free that coming Saturday because I needed her help with a project I was doing.

She told me she would be pre-occupied Saturday morning and would instead come over later in the afternoon. I insisted that I needed her all day from morning and I knew Saturday's are usually her off days from work. Then she matter-of-factly informed me that she sets aside her Saturday mornings to go over to her boyfriends house to clean and do his laundry and so she couldn't come over and help me with my project because that was the only time she had to do her boyfriend's chores.

I was completely taken aback! I was at a loss for words. I'd never figured Sheila as the spineless type. She is drop-dead gorgeous, university educated with good job that rakes in good money. The Sheila I knew would never blow off girl time with me to go scrub a man's pans and wash his underwear!

To make matters worse, I had met Mark before and he isn't exactly the kind of guy you would want to bend over backwards to please. He was an arrogant bugger who treated her like crap. But here was Sheila, all starry eyed, ready to move heavens and earth for him! Why would this otherwise smart woman get so dumb when it comes to this man?

Women do stupid things when they get smitten with a man but playing wife with men they barely know is by far the most foolish! I don't even like doing my own laundry and avoid it when I can. I can't imagine myself doing someone else's. I cant imagine myself being so blinded by emotions that I would give up my precious off days to go mop some dude's floor.

Sadly, this is the reality for a number of women. They think that by cooking and cleaning for their deadbeat boyfriends they will come across as wife material and hence these men will want to stick around. The truth is, ladies, he is only sticking around because of all the money he is saving on hiring a cleaner. You are nothing but a maid to him. Women, get yourselves some standards and stop cleaning for men who aren't your husbands.
